A Fun Running Workout? Try The Photo Scavenger Hunt

Well, simply put, you run around your town finding different things to take images of. Now some things are selected particularly for the range they require to run to get them. You end up with an enjoyable, yet rather tough workout.I never saw a group of kids get so fired up to run before I did this. It makes running enjoyable and fresh, even for an old running veteran like me. Exactly what is, “The Photo Scavenger Hunt?” Well, just put, you run around your town finding various things to take images of. You set a specific amount of time to run, and take as numerous photos you can discover on your scavenger hunt list.I am a cross country and track coach. Every season we do this exercise as a simple run. We break the collaborate into groups of 5 to 8 runners. Each group gets a non reusable electronic camera. The group then gets a list of items that they require to take a picture of. The only catch with taking a picture is your entire group, minus the cam person, need to be in the picture. That way we understand that every runner from each group was at each location.This workout works for individuals too. Just grab the camera, get a list of things to take pictures of, and head on out the door. Make certain you set a specific time limit, so you do not lose time looking for one thing too long. The idea is to get as lots of things as possible in a brief quantity of time. It is almost like running a bunch of mixed distance intervals with short recovery.Here is an example list of products that we used for the previous seasons cross country image scavenger hunt. They were given 45 minutes to try and get as many images of these items. Now some things are chosen particularly for the distance they require to run to get them. Smarter groups will plan their route so they can cover the least amount of ground and maximize the number of photos taken.1. By a restaurant. 2. With a stranger. 3. By some water. 4. In the woods. 5. Assist pump some gas. 6. By a church. 7. On some swings. 8. Doing your preferred stretch. 9. By the water tower. 10. By your favorite vehicle. 11. Doing backyard work. 12. Helping a citizen cross the road. 13. By the railroad tracks. 14. On the football field. 15. By an awful car.Now, a few of these areas are more than one mile from where we begin. They could make a total loop of five miles and cover each item on the list if our runners planned ahead. This produces a 9 minute mile rate. Now include the fact that you have to stop for the image. You end up with a fun, yet rather difficult workout.I never saw a group of kids get so thrilled to run prior to I did this. They asked to do it each week. I informed them that it is rather expensive for the entire team to do this. Our bill was just under $100 for 8 non reusable cameras and after that development of the pictures.So there you have it.
